Fighting between Amhara Fano forces and units working with Abiy Ahmed’s Regime continued across a wide stretch of the Amhara Region during the week of September 14 to 20, 2026, according to a weekly conflict update from the Amhara America Association. The U.S.-based monitoring group said battle events and rights violations were recorded in more than 21 woreda and city administrations across 11 zonal administrations, and it updated the report on September 21.

The zones named in the update include North Wollo, South Wollo, North Shewa, East Gojjam, West Gojjam, North Gojjam, Awi, South Gonder, Central Gonder, West Gonder, and Welkait-Tegede-Setit Humera. The same overview also noted developments in the Gurage Zone of the Central Ethiopia Region, which sits outside Amhara’s formal borders. Civilian casualties were recorded in five woreda administrations spread across five zones, the monitors said: Kobo in North Wollo, Mojana-Wadera in North Shewa, Dega-Damot in West Gojjam, Guagusa-Shikudad in Awi, and Alefa in Central Gonder. Abductions were recorded in Enemay Woreda of East Gojjam Zone. The Amhara America Association report does not publish independent battlefield tallies for each incident, and the figures it tracks should be read as monitoring findings rather than a full census of losses.

Drone activity was recorded in three woredas across three zones during the same week: Meket in North Wollo, Dera in South Gonder, and Alefa in Central Gonder. Alefa appears on both the civilian-casualty and drone-activity lists in the overview. Conflict monitors have tracked repeated aerial strikes across Amhara since the Fano war intensified in 2023, and this week’s map again shows drone activity alongside ground fighting in several zones.

The weekly update also noted that an AFNM-led coalition announced the Ethiopian Peoples’ Forces Alliance for Survival during the same period, with the stated aim of removing Abiy Ahmed’s Regime and installing a transitional government.
