Ghana Wins Ethiopia 4-0 to Qualify for 2016 U-20 Women’s World Cup

womensTwo west-African countries will represent Africa at the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to be staged in Papua New Guinea. Ghana and Nigeria earned their place in the competition over the weekend after defeating Ethiopia and South Africa respectively.

Ghana’s Black Princesses hosted Ethiopia in Kumasi on Sunday at the Baba Yara stadium. The Princesses put up a definitive performance at home, winning Ethiopia by 4-0. Ghana qualifies for the World Cup next year on 6-2 aggregate after drawing 2-2 in Addis Ababa during the first leg on October 24th.

Ethiopia conceded the first goal in the 33rd minute and could not sustain he pressure from Ghana in the second half. The other goals came in the 48th, 50th and 68th minute of the game.

Nigeria recorded a second win over South Africa on Sunday to confirm their place in the international tournament. Nigeria’s Falconets qualified on a 3-1 aggregate.
