{"id":8238,"date":"2014-04-13T08:51:47","date_gmt":"2014-04-13T12:51:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/?p=8238"},"modified":"2014-04-13T08:54:45","modified_gmt":"2014-04-13T12:54:45","slug":"kenyas-wilson-kipsang-wins-london-marathon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/8238","title":{"rendered":"Kenya&#8217;s Wilson Kipsang wins London Marathon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Wilson-Kipsang-of-Kenya-wins-the-Mens-London-marathon-802281.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8239 alignleft\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Wilson-Kipsang-of-Kenya-wins-the-Mens-London-marathon-802281-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Wilson-Kipsang-of-Kenya-wins-the-Mens-London-marathon-802281-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Wilson-Kipsang-of-Kenya-wins-the-Mens-London-marathon-802281-220x146.jpg 220w, http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Wilson-Kipsang-of-Kenya-wins-the-Mens-London-marathon-802281.jpg 615w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The current marathon world record holder, Wilson Kipsang, added another medal to his collection on Sunday after winning the men&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/lrn.london-marathon.com\/kipsang-and-kiplagat-reign-supreme-kenya\/\">London Marathon<\/a> in record time of 2:04:29 &#8211; about 11 seconds better than the previous record.<\/p>\n<p>The 32-year old, who won the same title two years ago, recently told the <a href=\"http:\/\/running.competitor.com\/2014\/04\/news\/video-wilson-kipsang-sub-2-hour-marathon_98637\">press <\/a>that he thought completing a long-distance marathon in under two hours is possible, but, perhaps not in his time.<\/p>\n<p>Another Kenyan, Stanley Biwott, claimed the second spot after finishing about 26 seconds behind Kipsang.<\/p>\n<p>Ethiopia&#8217;s Tsegaye Kebede, Ayele Abshero and Tsegaye Mekonnen placed 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.<\/p>\n<p>While Kenya&#8217;s Geofrey Mutai placed 6th, followed by his compatriot and former London Marathon record holder, Emmanuel Mutai in 7th position.<\/p>\n<p>Mo Farah finished his much anticipated long distance marathon debut in 8th place, with a time of 2:08:19.<\/p>\n<p>The Somali-born athlete expressed his disappointment to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/sport\/othersports\/athletics\/london-marathon\/10763358\/London-Marathon-2014-live.html\">media <\/a>saying &#8221; I gave it a go, but that&#8217;s all I could do. I&#8217;m disappointed I couldn&#8217;t give the crowd what they deserved.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, the Olympic Games, World Championships and European Championships track-race gold medal holder has revealed that he will give long distance marathon another try.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Ethiopia&#8217;s Feyisa Lilesa finished in 9th position, while American Ryan Vail trailed behind the pack in 10th place.<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/edna-kiplagat-wins-womens-london-marathon-110114526--spt.html\">women&#8217;s race<\/a>, Kenya&#8217;s Edna Kiplagat (02:20:21) outpaced her fellow compatriot Florence Kiplagat to claim her first London Marathon title after finishing as runner-up for the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>Florence Kiplagat and Ethiopia&#8217;s Tirunesh Dibaba came in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Photo\/Reuters: Kipsang crosses the finish line.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The current marathon world record holder, Wilson Kipsang, added another medal to his collection on Sunday after winning the men&#8217;s London Marathon in record time of 2:04:29 &#8211; about 11 seconds better than the previous record.
