\"\"<\/a>Medical experts say cases of the harrowing\u00a0Chikugunya\u00a0disease\u00a0have been recorded\u00a0in Uganda.<\/p>\n

Although this is not the first time the mosquito-borne virus has been found in Uganda, or the East African region, \u00a0it’s\u00a0resurgence comes in the wake of increased awareness of its\u00a0debilitating\u00a0effects.<\/p>\n

According to New Vision<\/a>, the latest Chikugunya\u00a0infections have been recorded around River\u00a0Semliki\u00a0and the West Nile region – where the unique disease-bearing\u00a0aedes\u00a0aegypti\u00a0mosquito can be\u00a0found.<\/p>\n

There is no widely accepted cure for Chikugunya. Medical professionals therefore place\u00a0a lot of\u00a0emphasis on prevention and early diagnosis of this disease, which\u00a0is particularly known for its painful effects on the joints.<\/p>\n

Besides Uganda, Chikugunya has – at different times – also been recorded in Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi and Sudan, as well as several other western and eastern African nations.<\/p>\n

For several years, medical experts say it has generally been limited to rural communities in the hinterland. However, global warming and rapid migration\u00a0is thought\u00a0to be\u00a0two of the main factors that have influenced the spread of this virus to other continents since 2004.<\/p>\n

Last year, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that over a hundred cases of\u00a0Chikugunya\u00a0had been recorded\u00a0in the\u00a0Caribbean\u00a0islands.<\/p>\n
