{"id":56547,"date":"2022-02-02T14:02:45","date_gmt":"2022-02-02T19:02:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/?p=56547"},"modified":"2022-02-02T23:40:41","modified_gmt":"2022-02-03T04:40:41","slug":"tigrayan-troops-retreat-as-afar-forces-step-up-massive-offensives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/56547","title":{"rendered":"Tigrayan troops retreat as Afar forces step up massive offensives"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\":rh\" class=\"Ar Au Ao\">\n<div id=\":rd\" class=\"Am Al editable LW-avf tS-tW tS-tY\" role=\"textbox\" aria-label=\"Message Body\">\n<p>Majority of Tigrayan troops, who had advanced in the recent days in the neighboring Afar region, retreated to Tigray following a massive counter offensive by Afar Special Forces and militia.<\/p>\n<p>The retreat came after four of their war leaders surrendered to the Afar forces and other 80 TPLF troops submitted to the same on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The TPLF troops launched fresh offensive in Waja and Timuga areas too but were pushed back by Amhara Special Forces and Militia. Many TPLF troops were routed by air strike on the Raya front.<\/p>\n<p>Raya Alamata, however, remains to be a stronghold of the Tigrayan forces since two months after the government announced the end of the second operation against TPLF forces.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses said the front has built concrete fortress in Chercher, Balla, Gotu-Gedera, Umo-Maru, Keren Kube-Tafe, Chamaro, Qaesole Kao, Addis-Qkign, Kosum, Bandjara localities etc in Raya, displacing thousands of people from the localities.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the United Nations\u2019 Secretary General on Tuesday made the \u201cstrongest possible appeal\u201d for all parties in Ethiopia to immediately end the fighting in Tigray and other areas, in the spirit of the General Assembly\u2019s Olympic Truce which began just a few days ago.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to journalists in New York, Ant\u00f3nio Guterres\u00a0said that it\u00a0would\u00a0allow for effective humanitarian access and relief to all affected populations throughout Ethiopia.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And these actions will help pave the way to much needed\u00a0 inclusive national dialogue involving all Ethiopians&#8221;\u00a0he added, noting that \u201cthe people of Ethiopia continue to suffer greatly from ongoing conflict and bloodshed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the UN chief prepares to leave for the Winter Olympics, he reiterated his appeal to all parties to follow the finest tradition of the Olympic spirit to save lives, overcome differences and find the path to real peace.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Majority of Tigrayan troops, who had advanced in the recent days in the neighboring Afar region, retreated to Tigray following a massive counter offensive by Afar Special Forces and militia.
