{"id":5311,"date":"2013-11-05T09:22:23","date_gmt":"2013-11-05T14:22:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/?p=5311"},"modified":"2013-11-05T10:10:55","modified_gmt":"2013-11-05T15:10:55","slug":"africas-media-leaders-attend-african-media-leaders-forum-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/5311","title":{"rendered":"Media Stakeholders Attend African Media Leaders Forum 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/016089295_40100.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5319 alignleft\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/016089295_40100-300x168.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/016089295_40100-300x168.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/016089295_40100-220x123.jpg 220w, http:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/016089295_40100.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Stakeholders in Africa&#8217;s media are in Addis Ababa for the 2013 African Media Leaders Forum.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s event, scheduled for the 6<sup>th<\/sup> to 8<sup>th<\/sup> of November, is themed \u201cMedia and African Renaissance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This annual event, which is currently in its 6<sup>th<\/sup> year, brings together publishers, journalists, CEOs and other stakeholders in Africa&#8217;s media to share ideas on the best ways to improve media practices and effect change in the continent.<\/p>\n<p>AMLF 2013 is being organized in partnership with the African Union (AU), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) and the Sub-Saharan Africa Media Programme of the Korad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS Media Africa).<\/p>\n<p>Besides numerous debates and discussions during this two-day gathering, the event is also expected to be a platform for individuals and organizations to showcase ground breaking innovations.<\/p>\n<p>AMLF 2013 will be co-chaired by Dr. Donald Kaberuka, AfDB President; Dr. Carlos Lopes, Executive Secretary UNECA, Ethiopia and Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, AU Chairperson.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Executive Officer of the African Media Initiative (AMI), Amadou Mahtar, touched on the importance of a free and stable media to Africa&#8217;s development. \u201cPress freedom and freedom of expression are critical ingredients to ensure a stable, dynamic and growing continent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting is expected to kick off on the 6<sup>th<\/sup> of November with a public debate themed \u201cAre African Media Capable of Transforming the Continent?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the most important highlights of this event will be the \u201cHeads of States Roundtable\u201d on November 8<sup>th<\/sup> on the theme \u201cReflecting on Enabling a Conducive Media Development Environment in Africa: Funding, Ethics, Technological Innovation and Freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the media has become increasingly free in some parts of the continent in the past few years, in other areas the media still contends with security risks and several other challenges threatening their free and optimal operation.<\/p>\n<p>Photo: UN Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, where the event will take place.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stakeholders in Africa&#8217;s media are in Addis Ababa for the 2013 African Media Leaders Forum.
