We also urge them to recommit to dialogue. Military action will not resolve political differences or address underlying grievances,\u201d Dujarric said, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/press.un.org\/en\/2026\/db260921.doc.htm\">UN daily press briefing<\/a> record and reporting by <a href=\"https:\/\/thepeninsulaqatar.com\/article\/22\/09\/2026\/un-voices-deep-concern-over-ethiopia-worsening-security-situation\">The Peninsula<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure><img src=\"https:\/\/www.zegabi.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/POST2_INLINE.jpg\" alt=\"Addis Ababa skyline\" \/><figcaption>Addis Ababa, seat of the Ethiopian federal government. Image from the zegabi.com media library.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Dujarric added that the United Nations continues to support African Union-led efforts to reduce tensions and to advance implementation of the Pretoria Agreement, the 2022 deal that ended the earlier war between the Ethiopian federal government and Tigrayan forces. The briefing did not assign responsibility for the reported drone strikes, and it did not name specific Amhara or Tigray sites.<\/p>\n<p>The UN statement landed one day after seven Ethiopian armed groups, including the Amhara Fano National Movement and the Tigray People\u2019s Liberation Front, announced the Ethiopian Peoples\u2019 Forces Alliance for Survival. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/africa\/seven-ethiopian-armed-groups-announce-anti-government-alliance-2026-09-21\/\">Reuters<\/a> reported that Billene Seyoum, a spokesperson for Abiy Ahmed, said members of the alliance had been collaborating for a while with financial backing from Eritrea. Eritrea has repeatedly denied similar accusations, and Asmara did not immediately comment on that claim in the Reuters report.<\/p>\n<p>The UN concern over drone strikes lands against a conflict that Amhara monitors say still spans many zones in a single week.
