The Ethiopian National Defense Force says nearly 300 fighters linked to the Tigray People\u2019s Liberation Front surrendered along the Tekeze corridor on September 18, handing over more than 280 weapons as Abiy Ahmed\u2019s Regime presses a military message while northern Ethiopia remains under renewed war pressure that also affects Amhara civilians.<\/p>\n

According to the ENDF Northwestern Command, speaking through Fana Media Corporation<\/a>, the surrender took place on bo<\/p>\n

An AFP<\/a> report carried the federal army\u2019s claim that nearly 300 Tigrayan fighters surrendered along the Tekeze corridor. TPLF Vice President Amanuel Assefa told AFP he could not comment on what he called a military issue. AFP also noted that both the Ethiopian federal government and Tigrayan forces have increased troop presence around Tigray\u2019s boundaries in recent months, and that conflict monitor ACLED has documented drone strikes in Tigray during 2026.<\/p>\n

Kulu Media also notes that former Tigray interim leader Getachew Reda, in a Pulse of Africa interview, alleged political coordination between TPLF leaders and Eritrea and warned that renewed confrontation could leave civilians in Tigray and Amhara bearing the consequences. Those allegations remain disputed and have not been independently established. For Amhara readers, the Tekeze claim matters because any widening of the northern war raises risks for communities already living with conflict, displacement, and thin aid pipelines under the authorities in Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n

The ENDF account, as relayed by Fana, said those who surrendered opposed preparations for renewed fighting and objected to alleged recruitment of young people in Tigray. Those claims come from the military\u2019s side and have not been independently confirmed. Fighting between federal and Tigrayan forces resumed on August 1, including clashes in western Tigray, putting new strain on the November 2022 Pretoria peace deal.<\/p>\n
