Ethiopia’s Tourism Suffers Decline After Year of Widespread Anti-Government Protests

Following the violence that occurred in some parts of the country earlier in this Ethiopian fiscal year (2016/17), tourist flow and the income generated from the sector have declined slightly.

Tourism generated $777 million from 207, 600 tourists in the second-quarter of 2007 E. C (2014/15). In the second-quarter of 2008 EC (2015/16), the country earned $913 million from 243, 879 tourists.

However, the flow of tourists and the income made from the sector in the first quarter of 2009 EC (2016/17) has declined by 0.84 percent
